OCR NVQ3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance
Advice and Guidance NVQs are suitable for people working in a support or advisory situation. This can cover a wide range of organisations including volunteer groups, housing associations, support networks, employment services, career guidance, student services etc. Delivery of this qualification is by attendance at a series of workshops and/or coaching sessions, covering underpinning knowledge for the qualification. This is then followed by assessments in the workplace against the standards of the qualification. Each candidate has their own individualised plan, to meet their aims, their timescales and their work/life commitments. The process is undertaken at a pace that suits the candidate.

The Official OCR Description:
The OCR Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Advice and Guidance has been designed to reflect the work of practitioners who undertake activities at Level 3 working directly with clients, disseminating information, advice, and some level of guidance. Candidates will be working with information that is often interpreted by others, usually working within some clear guidelines. It is suitable for candidates: • whose work includes clear guidelines in the practice of advice and guidance • who are working in designated advice and/or guidance organisations • whose role is to provide information that is often interpreted by others. This qualification will allow for progression to and from OCR's portfolio of Advice and Guidance related qualifications and will complement other vocational qualifications. To achieve this qualification, you must achieve a total of at least 21 credits made up as follows:

The more realistic criteria:
As is often the case, the reality may be a little different. The key requirements for this qualification are that 1) Candidates work on a 1:1 basis with clients offering advice and guidance. 2) Candidates must have enough range and responsibility within their role(s) to be able to evidence a sufficient number of optional units to achieve the full qualification. There are 15 optional units available and a ‘typical’ L3 candidate will need to achieve either 2 or 3 optional units to achieve the required ‘credit value'. Your Assessor will support you in selecting the most appropriate optional units Candidates need to be employed, or working in a voluntary capacity, in a role that will support their achievement of the qualification.
